Who are the covered employees of the family and medical leave act?

Private employers who have at least 50 employees are covered by the law. Those who have less than 50 are not covered by this specific law but are covered by state family and medical leave laws. Government agencies, public elementary and secondary schools are automatically covered, regardless of the number of employees.

What are the common reasons covered by family and medical leave act?

  1. Illnesses that require an overnight stay in hospital or other medical facilities.
  2. Injuries to you or your family that incapacitate for more than three days and require ongoing medical treatment.
  3. Chronic conditions that incapacitate you or your family occasionally and require medical attention at least twice a year.
  4. Pregnancy.

Who are eligible to avail of the family and medical leave act?

The covered employees are those who have worked for at least one year under a covered employee and for at least 1,250 hours over the previous 12 months.
